Moving pictures

I've got a couple of excellent little videos to share with you.

The first is the latest short film by Karl Lagerfeld for Chanel, and involves some interesting mannequin shenanigans. I found it on Twitter via Fashionista.com.

All the living dolls are beautifully kitted out of course, but the music and camera work are like something out of a murderous horror movie or dark sci-fi show. As The Boy put it after he asked "What are you watching??" and I replied that it was a creepy Chanel video: “I was gonna say! Very spooky music. Very X-Files.”

I do enjoy a bit of the sinister in fashion. There can be a little too much sheen and perfection for my tastes. This is quite to my liking.

The second video is a mini documentary about The Sartorialist (Scott Schuman). He shared it on his blog last week and I find it a really fascinating insight into, as the girl he photographs in the film describes him, “the man behind the camera”.

I love his idea of the ‘digital park bench’ as a reason why street style scouting blogs like his are so popular. People watching is one of my favourite hobbies - something I think I share with a lot of folks - and this notion of being able to gawk at amazing people from all over the world from the safety of my laptop makes a lot of sense to me.

I hope you enjoy these as much as I did.
