Even though I'm inside today and not taking advantage of the glorious weather, I did decide to make an effort and pop some make-up on. Mainly because I wanted to try out the Cosmetics a la Carte cheek ice that I won from handbag.com last week.
I don't often use cream blushers or these solid stains, as I have quite oily skin and am therefore a slave to face powder. So powder blushers and bronzers are my cheeky preference, as they don't tend to cake. If the weather is really hot and sunny though, using lots of powder is less than ideal and a blush that will glide on for some subtle colour (so important when you're as pale as me!) can work far better. I recently bought a Maybelline Dream Mousse blush in Dolly Pink for that very reason.
The cheek ice does work really well. You don't have to put loads on to start seeing the colour, which is sheer and warm. It's easy to blend, and layering it up definitely makes the colour more pronounced, so you can go for a range of effects depending on whether you're off to the park or out drinking cocktails.
I have the 'Papaya' shade, which the Cosmetics a la Carte website describes as 'peach perfection'. I think they might have got their fruits a little muddled though as it's not what I'd call peachy; more of a sheer red, like... well, papaya!
I did try to take some pictures of the cheek ice actually on my cheeks, but they didn't come out very well. So instead I photographed the product on top of Pheobe Philo's beautiful black and white portrait from the cover of the first issue of The Gentlewoman. And as you can see she does it far better justice than I could have!
This is the first time I've come across Cosmetics a la Carte and now that I've been introduced to them via this impressive freebie, I might have to investigate further.
